Monaghan County Council launches Public Consultation on the proposed N2 Ardee to Castleblayney Road Scheme

Monaghan County Council is seeking feedback on the study area and key constraints on the proposed N2 Ardee to Castleblayney Road Scheme.

Monaghan County Council is working in partnership with Louth County Council and in association with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to develop a scheme to upgrade a 32km section of the N2/A5 Dublin-Derry Road. The proposed project is in Counties Monaghan and Louth, between Ardee and Castleblayney. This project is called the N2 Ardee to Castleblayney Road Scheme, and Monaghan County Council is the lead local authority.

Monaghan County Council is also working on a 28km project to advance the design and planning of the N2 between Clontibret and the Border. Together with the other improvements planned for the N2/A5 route, both schemes will significantly improve transport connectivity along the N2 and provide more efficient access to other strategic national roads.

Monaghan County Council is now holding the first non-statutory consultation on the proposed N2 Ardee to Castleblayney Road Scheme where they are seeking the public’s feedback on the study area and key constraints. Public consultation events are taking place in the Glencarn Hotel, Castleblayney on the 25th June 2019 between 2pm and 8pm, in the Nuremore Hotel, Carrickmacross on the 26th June 2019 between 2pm and 8pm, and in Ardee Parish centre on the 27th June between 2pm and 8pm.

Speaking about the upcoming launch of the public consultation, Patricia Monahan, Director of Services for Monaghan County Council, said “We are delighted to be launching this new proposed N2 Ardee to Castleblayney Road Scheme, which is an important project to enhance key North/South and Regional connectivity and to improve road safety. Subject to funding, the design process will be developed in stages, with opportunities for the public to participate in the decision-making at each stage.

This is our first stage of non-statutory public consultation where we are asking for the public’s feedback on the study area and key constraints. We are also presenting the consultation roadmap which illustrates when the public and stakeholders can expect to be consulted. I would encourage those interested to attend one of our three upcoming Public Consultation Events and to make a submission on the scheme. It will also be an opportunity to meet the project team who can answer any questions you may have.”

All information about the public consultations, including a study area map and feedback form, can be downloaded from the project website www.N2MonaghanLouth.ie. Submissions can be made electronically or by FREEPOST up until the 25th July 2019.

After all known constraints have been identified, route corridor options will be developed - during this process there will be other opportunities to give feedback and make submissions in relation to the route options. Details of future public consultation events will be posted on the website www.N2MonaghanLouth.ie and through media notices.
